DESCRIPTION:Lil’ Samurai  (online & in Dojo)\n*AGES 4-7* \nThis class is offered online in addition to in the dojo. To receive a Zoom invite\, please contact the dojo. In Dojo classes follow strict COVID-19 safety policies including social distancing\, hand sanitizing\, health checks\, mask use\, etc. \nDescription: Our Lil’ Samurai program is engineered to introduce young children\, ages 4-7\, to basic Aikido concepts. Classes are taught in a traditional dojo setting. Courtesy\, respect and cooperation are fundamental lessons\, and built into the formal beginning of each class. Children learn a variety of activities and skills\, including stretching and playful warm-ups. \nTime is devoted to learning the fundamental movements of the Ki-Aikido martial arts at a level that is appropriate for small children. We focus on making the class a fun way to get exercise and teach the basic concepts the children will need to know as they grow older. \nA Ki-Aikido art consists of one person attacking and another person performing the Ki-Aikido technique (made up of throws\, re-directions and pins). Because attackers are frequently thrown to the ground\, it is necessary to learn how to fall safely. These skills are taught at the pace small children are able to learn them. Other students in the class train with respect of each other’s abilities in this area. \nLessons are often summarized at the end of class\, showing students how the day’s learning can be applied to their life outside the dojo\, including some of the following applications: \n\n\n\n\n\nhow to maintain focus (called “one-point”)\nhow to stay calm in stressful situations\nhow to respect themselves and others\nhow to work with a partner through cooperation\nlearn to work hard and not give up\nlearn how to exercise the body and push themselves physically\nhow to use their skills in daily life\n\nimprove relationships with friends\, siblings\, parents & teachers\nimprove school performance\nimprove performances in sports\ncope with bullying and peer pressure\nlearn how to see a task through to completion\n\n\nhow to resolve conflicts without fighting\nhow to defend themselves by re-directing attacks away from them safely\n\n\n\n\n\nAGES: 4-7 \nDAY: Monday\, Thurs \nTIME: 5:00pm-5:30pm. Children learn a variety of activities and skills\, including stretching and playful warm-ups. \nTime is devoted to learning the fundamental movements of the Ki-Aikido martial arts at a level that is appropriate for small children. We focus on making the class a fun way to get exercise and teach the basic concepts the children will need to know as they grow older. \nA Ki-Aikido art consists of one person attacking and another person performing the Ki-Aikido technique (made up of throws\, re-directions and pins). Students use the time to check off Taigi pre-reqs\, study arts fro their upcoming tests and review Ki testing requirements. \nTopics include: \n\nTaigi check-off\nKi Exercises\nHitori Waza\nMartial Art Techniques: Throws\, Joint Locks\, Strikes\, Attacks\, Pins\, Rolling/Falling (Ukemi)\nTraditional Japanese Weapons: Bokken (sword)\, Jo (staff)\, Tanto (knife)\n\nLearn more about Ki Development \nLearn more about Aikido \nAGES: All Ages \nDAY: Tuesday \nTIME: 5:40pm-6:25pm.\nClass begins promptly at 5:40pm \nREGISTER TODAY! \nCONTACT: Email me at wardsensei@westlinnkiaikido.com \nCOURSE FEE: $95 a month for adults. $70 a month for teens. $65 a month for kids under 13.
